God Saves His People - Part 1

Introduction:
The story of Moses being rescued from the basket in the reeds just goes to show that God is always looking out for us. God knew His plans for Moses even then, just like He knows the plans He has for us. It's so neat how we can look back at our lives and see God's hand in every situation, we may not understand why things happen but who better to trust your life in than God.
The message:
Preschool thru Grade 1: God saves His people. God saved Moses.
Grades 2 and 3: God saved Moses because He had a purpose for him. He has a purpose for you too.
I've split this message into two separate ones depending on the age level. For the younger children, the message evolves further from the God made families series, to God saves His people. For the older kids the message applies more to their lives and their importance in God's overall plan. Make sure you repeat the message many times during the lesson.
For the older children, we expand on this message and say that "God has a purpose for your life". We all have a purpose and it's neat to know that God can use us in a special way to help him. Just like Moses, God knew he would deliver his people from Egypt, and do many other great things. Send the "God saved Moses" Take Home Sheet home with the children to encourage parents to discuss the message during the week. It includes a poster at the bottom that the children can color and hang on their wall or refrigerator.

Some people like to do craft time first and story time second and some like to switch it around. I like the first option, myself.
Always consider offering Coloring Pages for children who aren't interested in participating in the group activity (or if you get done the group activities very quickly and need something to fill in the spare time). Everyone has a need for "alone time" once in awhile. Also, sending home the coloring pages with the Take Home sheet provides parents with much needed help in reinforcing the lessons. You can make a nice little booklet each week with the take home sheet on top -- I promise that most parents will appreciate the effort!

| Welcome! Receive name tags. Have the children use crayons, markers, yarn and whatever other materials (such as wiggly eyes or buttons) you have available to personalize their name tag. Sing the Learning our Names song |

Craft time! Preschool thru Grade 1: Make the Baby Moses paper craft.By using the black and white template the children can color most of the craft themselves. It might be neat to glue real grass or a cat tail to each of the crafts. Grade 2 and 3: Make the Weave a Basket paper craft. Depending on the amount of time you have allow the children to draw baby Moses on a separate piece of paper and they can add him to the basket later on. A small piece of material glued into the basket could be used as a blanket. |

Bible Story Time: Preschool thru Grade 1: Read the Children's Version of the Baby Moses story. (or read from your own store bought children's bible). Grade 2 and 3: it's tough to know when it's the right time to start readings from the Bible, but if the children have been read a children's version of the story in the past, I believe this is a good age to introduce the King James (or your preferred) bible reading. |

Closing: Preschool thru Grade 1: Depending on the time remaining, allow the children to brainstorm about some of the things their parents do to protect them? (teach us to look both ways before crossing the street, etc.) God protects us by giving us parents to help us, what are some ways God protects us? Grade 2 and 3: Depending on the time remaining, allow the children to brainstorm about some other people in the Bible or people they know that God has saved from a situation (Joseph, Noah, or a family member). Discuss that we all have a purpose, and God wants to use us to help Him tell others about Him and His love. All Grades: I'm a Little Vessel (you can hand out the words or hang them up somewhere. Use the actions similar to I'm a Little Teapot, and make some of your own with the kids. Standard ending song: "We Love to Learn Together" |
